Binance refuses to pay mere $8,000 fine to Uzbekistan, gets sued

The National Agency for Prospective Projects (NAPP) of Uzbekistan has sued crypto exchange Binance after a small fine imposed in January remains unpaid. Binance was slapped with a 102 million som ($8,200) fine in January for operating in the country without a license. Though pocket change for the global — yet deeply troubled — exchange, Binance has apparently given regulators the cold shoulder. The NAPP has now taken the issue to court. According to the agency’s deputy director Vyacheslav Pak, Binance’s evasiveness came as no surprise. “Naturally, as we expected, they refused to pay,” Pak told local outlet Gazeta. “Therefore, following the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan , we will submit a corresponding claim to the court, and a decision will be made.” Hamas victims from the US sue Iran, Syria, Binance, and CZ Read more: Binance and CZ plead guilty but SEC lawsuit remains Uzbekistan first blocked access to Binance in ...

Binance ex-CEO’s travel ban Recall that the U.S. Justice Department argued against letting Zhao leave to the UAE, adding that he might not return to the U.S. to face his sentencing, as the country does not have an extradition agreement with the UAE. This week, District Judge Richard Jones agreed that authorities restrict Zhao from leaving the U.S. before his sentencing in February next year. Zhao would have to remain in the U.S. until then. Zhao resigns as Binance.US chairman amid probe Despite getting the global Binance entity to admit to financial violations and a fine of $4.3 billion, U.S. authorities are still onto the Binance brand. Binance, CZ settlement with US DOJ 'bullish for Bitcoin ETF,' crypto community says

Many on Twitter compared the Binance settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice to the deal with BitMEX crypto exchange, whose then-CEO was also forced to step down. A look at the SEC rebuttal of Binance’s motion to dismiss

On June 5, 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission ( SEC ) sued Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) for billions of dollars. This week, the SEC reiterated and clarified its claims in a rebuttal to Binance ’s formal motion to dismiss that lawsuit. The SEC’s lawsuit alleges that Binance raised money by selling its two tokens, BNB and BUSD, in illegal securities offerings to many US investors. That fundraising, plus untold millions from selling other unregistered securities, helped it earn at least $11.6 billion in revenue. Explaining its reasoning, the SEC focused on the Howey Test, which US courts commonly use to determine whether someone illegally sells crypto assets. The Howey Test refers to a 1946 US Supreme Court ruling, SEC v. W.J. Howey Co. Deciding in the SEC’s favor, the Supreme Court defined an investment contract as a transaction that meets these four conditions: An investment of money, Into a common enterprise, With the reasonable expectation of profit, ...

Binance customers have traded against themselves with real money for six years

Apparently, trading against oneself is so commonplace at Binance that the exchange is proudly announcing self-transaction prevention (STP). No, STP won’t stop Binance executives from trading against their customers, despite the general prevalence of this industry practice. Instead, Binance executives are adding this “feature” for customers to stop trading against themselves — a full six years since the founding of Binance. It appears that the practice is so rampant that rolling out the feature will take several weeks. Binance customers may continue to trade with themselves until October 26 at 16:00 EDT.  That window opportunity may be around for longer. Detailed API documentation provides computer codes for users who wish to continue trading against themselves, even after STP becomes a default setting.
